(One semester studio)WMCAT Ceramics Teacher Jo with students

Learn basic skills in hand building and throwing on the potter’s wheel.  Turn clay into original ceramic creations, keeping form and function in mind while we tackle our inner creativity. Using coil and slab techniques, you’ll work independently and in groups to explore ideas and design unique pottery pieces.

Jovonnah Lee Nicholson

Jo shares her talent and passion for arts education as our teaching artist for ceramics and sculpture. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture and Functional Arts from Kendall College of Art and Design, where she also taught several courses in ceramics. A working artist who has exhibited statewide, Jo taught at the Urban Institute of Contemporary Arts and Ox-Bow Summer School of Art; and sold work on consignment through galleries. Throughout her career she has received several awards including a Studio Excellence Award from Kendall and honors from Festival of the Arts in Grand Rapids. You can even find her creative touch as an ice sculptor at local events and on “Ice Brigade,” a 2011 Food Network show.
