A career in medical coding/healthcare services offers diverse experiences and a rewarding opportunity in an office or hospital environment.
This program fulfills the market demand for trained staff to provide healthcare service support for such roles as medical coding, patient scheduling, patient registration, and other positions where knowledge of healthcare including medical terminology, anatomy, pathophysiology, and coding would be an asset. Graduates will be prepared for positions in various healthcare settings including inpatient and outpatient hospital departments, health insurance companies, physician offices and billing services.
Susan has a long career in healthcare education, serving as department chair for Health Information Management at Davenport University, an adjunct professor, and a subject matter expert and consultant for health information management curriculum. She also served as the manager of outpatient coding for St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit.
Susan earned her Master of Business Administration from Davenport University and her Bachelor of Science from Aquinas College. She is a registered Health Information Technician, and an America Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) approved trainer in ICD-10, the new standard coding language.
Professionally and in the community Susan served on WMCAT’s Advisory Board for medical coding, a member of AHIMA, the Michigan Health Information Management Association, and the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony.
